FAQ

Do I need an Apify account?

To run tools, yes: sign in with OAuth when your client connects, or paste an Apify API token. Discovery tools such as search-actors work without one. Apify's Free plan includes $5 of monthly credit.

How do I cap what an agent can spend?

Add Apify's generic call-actor tool to the URL and pass callOptions.maxTotalChargeUsd. Over REST, use the maxTotalChargeUsd query parameter. Every tool also has a per-run maximum-cost setting in the Apify Console.

Can agents pay without an Apify account?

Apify supports agentic payments (x402, Skyfire) for eligible pay-per-event Actors. Wrenfield Data tools use pure pay-per-event pricing with limited permissions, which is what that requires. See Apify's MCP docs for the current setup.

Which clients work?

Any client that speaks remote MCP over streamable HTTP: Claude (desktop, web, Claude Code), Cursor, VS Code / GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cline, ChatGPT connectors, and custom agents. Clients that only run local servers can use npx @apify/actors-mcp-server.
